About the event

What started out young, hot, and full of energy in the Jurassic—but now sits old, cold, and being quarried on the north side of Mount Diablo? What formed like geological snow and ice piling up in front of a giant tectonic snowplow? What’s been dicing up the Bay Area like a deck of cards for the last 30 million years and is now shoving Mount Diablo up and over the San Ramon Valley? Join local geologist, educator, and MDIA volunteer Martin Steinpress to discover how three rock units in our own backyard—and the ongoing uplift of Mount Diablo—tell the story of a dynamic Earth that is always in motion.
