Drab, mottled brown back color contrasts with yellow breast and V-shaped black band on the underparts. In flight, note the white outer tail feathers. Song is distinctly flute-like.
Nests on the ground. Grasses and plant-stems are used to build a cup-shaped nest that is often domed. Feeds on seeds and insects.
