Moth Night!

Saturday, July 27, 2024

8:30 PM - 10:30 PM

Location: Mitchell Canyon Visitor Center

96 Mitchell Canyon Road, Clayton, CA

Partly because they fly at night when we usually aren't looking, moths aren't seen as often as their brightly colored relatives the butterflies, but did you know that worldwide there are about nine times more species of moths than butterflies?

Join us to help discover which amazing moths are part of Mount Diablo State Park's nightshift. We'll have lights set up to see what moths (and other nocturnal flyers) stop by. Photos of what we see will add to the community science data being collected during National Moth Week.

There will be observation areas near the parking lot so no hiking is required. Closed-toe shoes and a flashlight are recommended.

Presented by California State Parks

Fee: $6 per vehicle/$5 for seniors - exact change only. Payable at the entrance to the Park by the stop sign.

Leader(s): Sharon Peterson, State Park Interpreter
