Summer Solstice Evening Hike

Saturday, June 18, 2022

Carl Nielson

7:00 - 9:30 PM

Location:

Mitchell Canyon Visitor Center

96 Mitchell Canyon Road, Clayton, CA

Description:

It’s (almost) summertime and the “living is easy”— the perfect time for an evening hike on Mount Diablo. Our soiree begins at Coulter Pond, where we’ll look for toads and frogs (assuming we get some more rain this Spring!). Then, as the sun sets, we’ll hike up Mitchell Canyon to check out the park’s evening shift, including poorwills, bats, owls, and scorpions.

This is an easy to moderate hike of about four miles round trip with a few hundred feet in elevation gain. Bring liquids, snacks, and a flashlight. Dress in layers and wear good hiking shoes. Bring poles if you normally use them.
