Meet in front of Mitchell Canyon Visitor Center at end of Mitchell Canyon Road.

Late March is an ideal time to see wildflowers and water on the rugged north side of Mount Diablo State Park. Our route will first take us up Back Canyon to Murchio Gap. After keeping our elevation for a bit, we’ll steeply descend the lovely Middle Trail until we meet the Falls Trail which we’ll take for close-up viewing of the falls and cataracts of upper Donner Canyon nestled just below imposing North Peak. Allow 8 hours for this 9.5-mile hike with a total elevation gain of about 2300 feet.  This hike has a steady relaxed pace with a 30-minute lunch and other rest breaks. Bring layered clothing, hiking shoes, lunch and water. Be prepared for mud and poison oak. Any rain cancels.
