A 19th century scientific expedition described Mount Diablo’s tarantulas as “attaining the size of a half-grown mouse, possessing fangs the size of a rattlesnake’s, and delivering a bite generally considered fatal!”  Trick or Treat?  Halloween is almost here!  Join us for a tarantula talk and a hair-raising trek in search of the creepy, crawling creatures that live on Mt. Diablo.  Are they scary, mysterious and spooky?  Learn the truth about Mt. Diablo’s giant spiders.  It should be a scream!  This is a 2-1/2 mile round-trip hike with a few hundred feet in elevation gain.  Meet at the Mitchell Canyon Visitor Center in Mount Diablo State Park.  $6.00 per vehicle park entrance fee.  Reservations required.  Contact Ken Lavin at This email address is being protected from spambots.
