"MOUNT DIABLO QUICKSILVER MINES."
We understand that some delay has been experienced in getting the machinery upon the ground at the Welch claim, by reason of the road not being completedas soon as expected. The contractors have now been allowed two weeks longer,by the expiration of which time the road will be ready for the passage of teams. Mr. Ogilsby has his machinery all ready, and will lose no time inputting up his crushers and furnaces. We understand that Mr. O. will take his family to the mine and devote his personal attention to forwarding the work, both of putting up the machinery and the subsequent development of the mine. The proprietors have the fullest confidence in the future of the undertaking.
The Camanche company, next adjoining, on the north, have renewed operations upon their portion of the lode with the most flattering prospects of soon being able to reach as good or better ore than can be found upon the Welch company's ground. We are not advised of what the Union company is doing on the south extension ; but presume they will not remain long idle after noticing the progress which is being made by the other companies. The situation of this mine cannot be excelled by that of any other mining operation in California; convenient of access from this city, with plenty of timber and water, it is also pleasant in its topographical surroundings, being in full view of Clayton, Pacheco, Pacheco Valley, Benicia, the Government Navy Yard and works at Mare Island, Suisun Bay, with a fine view of the Sierra Nevada mountains in the distance.
